Z czasem jednak wytworzy\u0142 w\u0142asny j\u0119zyk. Przede wszystkim w jego budynkach wa\u017cna sta\u0142a si\u0119 relacja pomi\u0119dzy zewn\u0119trzem a wn\u0119trzem, a inspiracji szuka\u0107 tu nale\u017cy w tradycyjnym japo\u0144skim budownictwie, opartym na systemie przesuwnych \u015bcian, cz\u0119sto papierowych ekran\u00f3w o r\u00f3\u017cnym stopniu przezierno\u015bci. Wiele z dom\u00f3w Shigeru Bana to w\u0142a\u015bnie opowie\u015bci o tym, czym mog\u0105 by\u0107 przegrody domu. Czasami mog\u0105 znikn\u0105\u0107 jak w Wall-Less House, gdzie przesuwne panoramiczne okna otwieraj\u0105 ca\u0142kowicie dom na las, a system ruchomych kurtyn i \u015bcian dzia\u0142owych mo\u017ce zamieni\u0107 wszystkie pomieszczenia w jedn\u0105 przestrze\u0144. Czasami \u015bciana mo\u017ce by\u0107 zwiewn\u0105 zas\u0142on\u0105 jak w Curtain Wall House. Dom otwiera si\u0119 na ulic\u0119, a wysok\u0105 przestrze\u0144 dzienn\u0105 wydziela tylko faluj\u0105ca na wietrze kurtyna (szklana \u015bciana zamykana jest zazwyczaj w czasie niepogody).
