Michał Jakubowicz concentrates on the problems of the visual code, morphology of the message, linguistic and extra-linguistic imaging, topology and an empty sign. He conducts study related to the perception of asemantic figures. He practices photography, performance, writes poetry and critical as well as theoretical texts.

In the project Food Styling (2005), inspired by Flemish still nature painting, fruit, vegetables and fish were wrapped with photographic paper and left for about half a year; most of them just evaporated, leaving a fixed /print – picture. In a similar way, i.e. by appropriate use of photo-sensitive matter, he realized the works Nantesology (2004), Fotology (since 2002). Michał Jakubowicz is also the author of series Everybody Has a Shadow (2002), Incessant Justification (2003) and Dłubak (Carver) (2005).

 

Michał Jakubowicz (born 1977)  from 1998 to 2003 studied Polish philology at the Wrocław University and photography (2000 – 2003) at the Fine Arts Academy in Poznań, where he is currently working on his doctoral dissertation. The artist runs his own original photography workshops in the following departments: Corporate Identity at the College of Social Psychology in Warsaw, Wrocław Department, and in Artistic Education at the Lower Silesia College.

His works were presented at some individual exhibitions (Trzebnica 2007, Wrocław 2005, Poznań 2004) and group ones (including 30th Anniversary Show, Foto-Medium-Art Gallery, Cracow 2007).

He published his texts among others in the magazines: ‘Odra’, ‘Exit’, ‘Artluk’ and ‘Rita Baum’. He is the author of a book about the Wrocław photo-medialism  Medium against a White Background (2007).
