Codemanipulator is an author of coded pictures, interactive installations, multimedia visualizations and photographs. They can be characterized as interdisciplinary realizations in the field of art, architecture, urban development and the Internet. Unique for the artist is his academic approach to the problems of digitalization and codes (binary and semantic ones), as well as a study of the influence of virtual world on artistic production and social transformations.

Codemanipulator’s activity is a reflection on the art development in the context of new technologies, especially Desktop Revolution which took place in the second half of the 80s. Watching this movement and recognizing its options led him to formulate radical ideas, even before there appeared possibilities of their realization. When such arose, he immediately realized those ideas. As one of the first artists in the world he used technologies resulting from the development of popular communications network, such as HTML code, as a medium for artistic creation.

The artist uses existing codes or he deliberately programs them in order that he can consciously or consciously accidentally manipulate them. In this way he creates new meanings, contexts and interpretations. The realizations have both a textual form – the code and a variable visual one.

The ideas realized in cyberspace during a unique Codemanipulation process  in real and virtual worlds may take the form of CodePainting, CodePoetry, CodeMovies, CodeSculpture, CodeArchitecture, …CodeEverything. An important element of Codemanipulator’s work is analyzing of the codes themselves with the use of various interpreting programs, e.g. Internet search-engines, 3D programs, mechanisms for the import, export and transformation of data.

The artist conducts his interdisciplinary and inter-medial research, supported with his knowledge of semantics, in order to reveal human limits of perception and interpretation and machine-made interpretations, as well as their paradoxical multi-layered structure. The diversity of his works often extends the ‘aesthetics of new media’. Codemanipulator’s works refer to the history of art icons (HTML-Malevich, 1996), include sociological reflection (Me-Myself-And-I, 1996, Ten Commandments, 2007), sometimes they  attempt to make the viewer interact with the object (Codemanipulator’s Toybox, 2007; Take a Cookie, 2007).
